  • Official language of Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda does not have an official language de jure . The English language is only mentioned three times in Antiguan and Barbudan legislation, all three of which occur in the Constitution. All persons detained in a state of emergency in Antigua and Barbuda have a right to a "furnished statement in English" explaining the detention, and the other two mentions make knowledge of English a requirement to serve in Parliament. English is also mentioned in parliamentary standing orders as the main language of parliamentary proceedings. All legislation in Antigua and Barbuda is written in English. While English is used in most government activities, no legal document has declared the language official de jure as of August 2024.

  • Antiguan and Barbudan Creoles: an overview

Antiguan and Barbudan Creoles are a group of Antiguans and Barbudans who primarily speak Antiguan and Barbudan Creole and are the descendants of the white, black, and mixed populations of the country prior to emancipation in 1834. Antiguan and Barbudan Creoles are subdivided into two main groups, the black creoles that are the descendants of the country's slaves and the white creoles that are the descendants of the plantocracy. A broader definition, white, black, and mixed people who were born in the country, made up about two-thirds of the country's population in 2011.

  • Capital of Antigua and Barbuda

As of May 2025, no legislation in Antigua and Barbuda establishes an official capital city. St. John's is the unofficial administrative centre of Antigua and Barbuda, being home to all three branches of government. However, most diplomatic missions are located in the village of Marble Hill and the North Coast region in general, rather than within St. John's city limits. The official residence of prime minister V. C. Bird was in the village of Tomlinson, and the residence of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who legally resides in St. John's City West is located in the North Coast.
